ARTIST STATEMENT

There is a lot to discover about a person by looking at how they live. Looking into the way I live is currently at the forefront of my interest in art making. My self-reflective approach stems from my need to find answers about myself that I cannot dig up in any other way. I have recently focused on living alone, how I fill the living void of my house through depicting the plants I am constantly buying and the bugs, dead or alive, I am always finding. I have been working with prints and book forms through serigraphy and intaglio to develop different vignettes that have surfaced with in my home. Repetition, which is well used in book forms, is key to my work due to its connection with habits and routines, and is therefore a reoccurring aspect in the work I make. Living alone allows for a lot of time to ones self, which is either embraced or dreaded. By working through this theme my goal is to embrace this time alone, self-reflect, and be more present day to day, which will hopefully lead to a better understanding of my personality and tendencies.
